A neighbourhood dispute on Cassaveweg escalated into a fight in the early hours of September 24, 2026. A 47-year-old woman sustained serious facial injuries. Three men have been detained in connection with the case.
Police had earlier gone to the address following a report of serious noise disturbance. Officers confiscated a music speaker to restore order. Shortly after they left, an argument broke out again between neighbourhood residents, escalating into a fight in the yard.
During the investigation, police received a report from the Emergency Department of Mungra Medisch Centrum. Relatives had taken the injured woman, M.R., to hospital. She was admitted because of the severity of her injuries.
On Friday, September 25, those involved appeared at the Nieuw Nickerie police station. Eight people were arrested and brought before an assistant public prosecutor. Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, H.H. (39), J.S. (55) and B.J. (21) were detained. The other five were released after questioning. Police are continuing the investigation.
