Police have arrested three suspects in connection with a shooting that occurred near the Sacred Heart School in Lavigilantia, in the Paramaribo police district, on Sunday, August 23. The firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not yet been found.
Police received a report at approximately 2:29 p.m. on Sunday that shots had been fired near the school.
The Regional Support Team Central (RBTM) immediately launched an investigation. Following a pursuit, 18-year-old S.M.T. was arrested. Police said he was the driver of one of the two vehicles involved.
Following further investigation, 27-year-old J.V. was also arrested on Tuesday morning. He is alleged to have driven the second vehicle.
During the investigation, a third suspect, 22-year-old V.N.R., turned himself in to police.
The two vehicles allegedly involved have been seized as part of the investigation. The firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not yet been recovered.
Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, all three suspects were detained on suspicion of violating the Firearms Act.
Paramaribo police are continuing the investigation.
