The Capital Crimes Department of the Korps Politie Suriname has launched an investigation into the disappearance of Siegiëllo Lorenzo Van Dalen (27) and Derryl Danillo Bont (28). There has been no trace of either man since Saturday, August 29, after they travelled by boat from Nickerie to Guyana.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the men left home on Friday, August 28, in a white Toyota Vitz. They reportedly went to the district of Nickerie for recreation.
A day later, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., they went to the Clarasluis in Nickerie. There, they left their vehicle behind and crossed to Guyana by boat.
After arriving in Guyana, the two are believed to have got into a black station wagon at the landing pier, which was being used as a taxi. There has been no contact with them since.
Cooperation with Guyanese authorities
As part of the investigation, police have questioned several people in Paramaribo and Nickerie. The Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service) has also been formally informed of the case.
The authorities are currently examining through which channels, in cooperation with their Guyanese counterparts, a joint cross-border investigation can be launched.
Police emphasise that, contrary to earlier media reports, they currently have no information about a possible third missing person who may be connected to this case.
People with information about the whereabouts of Van Dalen and Bont are asked to contact the Capital Crimes Department via 403-645, the Command Center via 115, or the nearest police station.
