734152359 122331701192011040 6866568757122931023 n Two suspects have been arrested for investment fraud via Facebook, after victims were deceived by false online trading offers and transferred money. The Korps Politie Suriname is continuing its investigation into the case.

The Fraud Department of the Korps Politie Suriname (KPS) is investigating a fraud case in which citizens are alleged to have been misled via social media with offers for online trading. Two suspects, R.S. and S.F., have been arrested and remanded in custody in the case.

The Quick Response Team (QRT) arrested R.S. on Thursday, 1 October 2026, based on information from the Criminele Inlichtingen Unit (CIU). S.F. has also since been arrested.

The investigation was prompted by a report filed by T.L. According to the preliminary police investigation, she was approached via Facebook with attractive offers to invest in online trading. Believing it to be a legitimate investment, she transferred three different sums of money to several bank accounts.

One of the transfers, amounting to SRD 5,800, was according to police deposited directly into R.S.’s bank account. The amounts of the other transfers were not disclosed.

When the promised returns failed to materialise and T.L. was no longer able to contact the providers, she filed a report with police.

Following consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), both suspects were remanded in custody. The Fraud Department is continuing the investigation.
