The Moengo swimming pool has been reopened after 35 years. Under the new name Moengo Aqualife Centrum, the facility offers young people in the Marowijne district opportunities for sports, recreation and social activities.
Among those speaking during the festive opening were District Commissioner Clyde Hunswijk, parliamentarian Geneviévre Jordan and Enrique Ralim, director of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports. Education inspector Mrs Anini, Mrs Pinas and Tresna Pinas also addressed the gathering.
The speakers emphasised the importance of the swimming pool as a place where young people can exercise and relax. They called on the community to treat the facility with care and to collectively contribute to its maintenance and preservation.
With the reopening, Moengo once again has a swimming pool available to young people in Marowijne. During the opening, it was stressed that community involvement is needed to keep the centre operational in the longer term.
