Virgil Misidjan has signed a contract with RKC Waalwijk until the end of the season, with an option for a further season. The 33-year-old winger joins on a free transfer. The club reported this through its official channels. Misidjan played for NEC last season, where his expiring contract was not extended.
The 13-time Surinamese international made a total of 20 appearances for the Nijmegen side. For a large part of those, he came on as a substitute. Misidjan scored only once and provided two assists for the club from Nijmegen.
On the club website, technical director Bernard Schuiteman spoke highly of the new signing.
“With Virgil, we were able to bring in a player who brings a great deal of experience and has proven himself at a high level for many years. We have a lot of talent on the wings, and with Virgil we are adding an experienced player to that. We are therefore very pleased that we were able to give our squad an additional boost after the transfer window closed.”
Misidjan himself said on the club website that he is very much looking forward to his new adventure at RKC. “For me, this feels like a great step. I was born in Brabant and received my youth training at RJO Willem II/RKC.”
Misidjan knows what he wants to achieve with RKC. “The club’s ambition is clear: to return to the Eredivisie. I think that with my qualities and experience, I can contribute to achieving that objective. I am really looking forward to getting started.”
Earlier in his career, Misidjan played for, among others, Willem II, Ludogorets, FC Nürnberg, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, Al-Tai and Ferencváros. In total, the winger made 445 official appearances, scoring 83 goals and providing 62 assists.
