POLITIE 006 82 During a gathering in Galibi, a man stabbed his nephew in the back with a sharp object, resulting in his immediate death. The suspect has been arrested and the investigation

A man died on Wednesday, September 9, in a stabbing incident in Christiaankondre, Galibi. According to police, he was stabbed in the back with a sharp object by his nephew during an argument.

Albina police received a report of the incident and went to the location. Preliminary investigations show that the victim was drinking alcohol with his nephew. At some point, another nephew joined the group.

The uncle addressed the other nephew about his behaviour. An argument then arose between the victim and the nephew with whom he had been drinking.

During the argument, the suspect allegedly picked up a sharp object and stabbed his uncle in the back with it. The victim was seriously injured and died at the scene. A doctor officially pronounced him dead.

Bystanders managed to overpower the suspect shortly after the incident. They handed him over to the police, after which he was arrested. The man will be brought before an assistant public prosecutor.

On the instructions of the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), the victim’s body was seized for an autopsy. The Kapitale Delicten and Forensische Opsporing departments conducted an investigation at the scene. The investigation into the exact cause and circumstances is continuing.
