VHP parliamentarian Krishna Mathoera does not rule out taking on a leadership role within the party in the future. She says she is available for any position in which she can contribute to the strengthening and further growth of the VHP.
Mathoera stressed in an interview with Radio ABC that she will only make a decision when the party structures approach her specifically. She therefore does not yet want to speculate on a possible candidacy.
According to the parliamentarian, the VHP has democratic structures within which candidates for party positions can be put forward. In the selection process, she believes the focus should primarily be on the profile and qualities of the candidates.
Emphasis on leadership and connection
Mathoera believes that vision, leadership and the ability to bring people together are important qualities for a party leader. According to her, leaders must be able to build bridges, inspire people and create sufficient support both within and outside the party.
“I have previously indicated that I am available for every position, because I am a member of the VHP and I want to see the VHP flourish and grow,” Mathoera said.
She stresses that strong political parties with honest and capable leaders are necessary for good governance. According to her, her efforts are aimed at further helping the VHP develop into a strong political organisation.
Decision following an appeal from the party
Mathoera regards a possible electoral contest for a position within the VHP as part of the democratic process. However, she believes that a potential candidacy must come from the party structures and be based on support.
“If the moment comes when structures call on me to say: enter that race, then I will make a decision,” she says.
With her remarks, Mathoera leaves open the possibility of taking on a more prominent role within the VHP in the future. For the time being, she has not made a concrete decision on a candidacy.
