Police have arrested four suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a shop in the Villa Brazil gold field. The loot, including money, raw gold and cigarettes, has been recovered and handed over to the victim.
The robbery took place on Friday, September 11, 2026, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Three masked men entered the shop. One of them was armed with a handgun and held the shopkeeper and his worker at gunpoint.
Under threat, the robbers took a large sum of money, a quantity of raw gold and cigarettes. After the robbery, they left the shop and got into a white vehicle, in which they sped away.
Following intensive investigation, a joint police team, in cooperation with the intelligence service, arrested four suspects in Villa Brazil. They are E.M. (33), B.C. (25), K.D. (25) and D.B. (23). Following consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), they have been remanded in custody.
The loot has been recovered and has since been handed over to the victim. Police in Brownsweg are continuing the investigation.
