The 19-year-old G.A. drowned on Wednesday, August 26, in a canal along Vredenburg Series A in the Wanica district. The young man was fishing with his father when he entered the water to cool off.
Shortly afterwards, his father noticed that G.A. was no longer visible. He searched for his son but was unable to find him, after which he alerted the police.
Fire department divers recovered the body from the canal in the evening, near house number 44. Officers from the Forensic Investigation Department and a doctor conducted an investigation at the scene.
The body was subsequently transported to the mortuary of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo and has since been released to the next of kin.
The police of Houttuin are handling the further processing of the case. Central Region extends its condolences to the family and wishes the bereaved much strength.
