Brunswijk: “I never said I am leaving the government”
“I never said I am leaving the government,” ABOP chairman Ronnie Brunswijk said recently on D-TV.
The ABOP chairman has faced a great deal of criticism in recent days after indicating that he is not satisfied in the government and threatening to end the cooperation. “I am stress-resistant, so people can criticise me, but I am sincerely working.” Brunswijk stressed that he has never threatened to leave the government. “I do not threaten, I say things as they are,” he said. According to him, the ABOP is being put under pressure. Matters are promised, but these are not honoured. “So it is not a threat; they are simply not working well with us, and at a certain point we will reach the climax.”
The ABOP parliamentarian said that President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons must know how to work with a partner. “If we help each other, there will be no problem.” He noted that if the ABOP had wanted to leave the coalition, it would have done so long ago. Brunswijk hopes that the NDP does not act dictatorially, because the party did not win the elections. “Let the NDP provide a quorum in parliament on its own; that will not work. If the ABOP is not present, there is no quorum.” According to him, the NDP did not win the elections with 18 seats.
