A 21-year-old motorist crashed his vehicle into an electricity pole of Energie Bedrijven Suriname (EBS) on Leiding 7A in Wanica on Friday evening. The driver told police that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Officers from the Leiding 9A police station encountered the driver, P.S., during a patrol near plot number 125. He was driving a grey Toyota Corolla Spacio.

Preliminary police investigations show that P.S. was driving along Leiding 7A in the direction of Pandit Krishnapersad Khedoeweg. Near plot number 127, he lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into EBS pole L7A27. The impact caused the pole to break in two.

The driver was unharmed. According to police, he showed no signs of alcohol use. He had a valid driving licence. The vehicle had also been inspected and insured.

EBS was called in and took measures around the damaged electricity pole. Leiding 9A police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
