The Ministry of Finance and Planning reports that the financial resources for the PLO fare compensation and fuel compensation for July 2026 have been processed. Further handling by the banks may take two to three business days. The announcement comes as bus operators who drive for the Nationaal Vervoerbedrijf (NVB) are protesting over outstanding fuel compensation for March through June.
According to the ministry, beneficiaries should check their bank accounts in the coming business days and inquire with their bank whether the money has been credited. The ministry asks them to take into account the banks’ processing time.
The announcement concerns July. Whether the outstanding fuel compensation for March through June for the protesting NVB bus operators has also been processed is not stated in the announcement.
The bus operators protested again on Thursday morning, 15 October, in front of the Kabinet van de President at Grote Combeweg. They had previously taken their buses out of service because of the payment arrears.
According to Cotino Finisie, chairman of the Bond van Bus- en Boothouders in Suriname (BBBS), all NVB buses have been at a standstill since the work stoppage began on Monday, 12 October, at 3 p.m.
The bus operators state that they will resume their services only once the outstanding payments have been made. The resumption of bus services has not yet been confirmed by the Finance Ministry’s announcement.
