791889966 1056504373804545 5940887305366890863 n LVV is strengthening agriculture and livestock farming in the Boven-Surinamegebied through education and sustainable production methods, aimed at increasing local production and the region's economic growth.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (LVV) aims to further develop agriculture and livestock farming in Atjoni and the Boven-Surinamegebied through information and guidance. During the ‘Saamaka Mbei Mbei Wojowojo’ fair, local producers received information on sustainable production methods and entrepreneurship.

The fair was held in Atjoni on August 29 and 30 as part of Heritage Month 2026. Farmers, livestock farmers and other entrepreneurs from the region presented their products and activities.

LVV staff provided visitors with information on crop production, plant care, food supply and sustainable agricultural methods. Opportunities to improve and expand agricultural activities were also discussed.

Within livestock farming, the emphasis was on keeping and caring for farm animals. According to the ministry, livestock farming can contribute to both food supply and the income of residents in the interior.

During the fair, agriculture director Nicholaas Pinas and deputy director of Agriculture Midden Sawirjo Soeparman presented a fruit plant to district commissioner Humphry Jeroe. According to LVV, the plant symbolised growth and a fruitful future for Atjoni and the surrounding communities.

Local producers were also given the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss cooperation and the marketing of their products.

LVV states that further support, knowledge transfer and guidance should lead to higher local production. The ministry also aims to contribute to the economic development of the Boven-Surinamegebied.
