Visitors to the Covezomarkt in Nieuwe Grond received information on Friday, October 9, about the nutritional value of eggs and their safe storage and preparation. The Directorate of Livestock Farming of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Farming and Fisheries (LVV) organised the activity as part of World Egg Day.
Members of the LVV staff explained, among other things, how consumers can use water to get an indication of the freshness of eggs. They also addressed suitable storage conditions. The ministry stressed that eggs should not be left in the sun for prolonged periods.
Careful preparation of eggs was also discussed. In connection with possible risks surrounding avian flu, the staff advised thoroughly boiling or frying eggs.
World Egg Day is observed annually on the second Friday of October. Through the information activity, LVV drew attention to both the nutritional value of eggs and food safety.
According to the ministry, several visitors indicated that they had not previously heard of World Egg Day. They appreciated the initiative and underscored the importance of more information on the safe handling of food.
