A fire on Sunday afternoon, September 13, severely damaged several apartments on Mr. Rashied Pierkhanweg. The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Santo Dorp police received a report at around 4:58 p.m. of a fire in a single-storey home at the apartment complex. When police and the fire brigade arrived, a row of apartments was on fire.
The blaze caused considerable damage to several residential units and parts of the roof structure. Swift action by the fire brigade prevented further spread. Police cordoned off the area and ensured safety around the complex.
One of the hardest-hit apartments was occupied by a police officer. This home sustained very severe damage, and a large part of its contents was lost.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is not yet known. The investigation is continuing.
