The operation was carried out by officers of the Narcotica Brigade, with support from the Arrestatie Team (AT) and the Quick Response Team (QRT). Police acted on information collected and processed by the Narcotics Intelligence Unit (NIU).
During the operation, two adjacent addresses were searched simultaneously. Nothing of note was found at one of the locations. At the second address, law enforcement officers found the 53-year-old L.A.
When the suspect noticed the police, he ran into a house and attempted to flush away 56 grams of marijuana. The attempt failed, after which police were able to arrest the man. The narcotics were seized.
L.A. was subsequently taken to the police station for arraignment. Following consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (OM, Public Prosecution Service), he was remanded in custody pending the investigation.
Police emphasise that they will continue their efforts against the trafficking and use of narcotics without interruption.
