Kwatta police have arrested two female caregivers following a report concerning the treatment of a 72-year-old woman in a nursing home.
The case came to light when a daughter of the woman unexpectedly visited her mother on Saturday, August 29. Upon entering, she heard her mother groaning, presumably in pain.
According to police, the daughter saw that a face mask had been placed over her mother’s mouth. One of the caregivers allegedly hurriedly removed the face mask. The daughter then discovered that there was also a rolled-up cloth in her mother’s mouth.
When she asked the caregiver for an explanation, she was told that her mother had suffered a shoulder fracture several days earlier. The woman had allegedly been constantly screaming because of the pain.
The daughter found the situation suspicious and filed a report with Kwatta police. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of caregivers O.J., 25, and R.C., 27.
Both suspects have been remanded in custody. Police are investigating what exactly took place at the nursing home and are continuing the investigation.
