Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez concluded her official visit to Suriname on the evening of Friday, September 11. During the visit, ten documents were signed to strengthen cooperation between Suriname and Venezuela in various areas.
Rodríguez departed for Caracas from Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport on Friday evening. She had arrived in Suriname on Thursday evening together with her delegation.
The official programme began on Friday morning with a ceremonial reception at the Presidential Palace. There, Rodríguez held consultations with President Jennifer Simons on further strengthening the long-standing ties between the two countries.
During the visit, ten documents were signed concerning cooperation in various sectors. Both governments aim to further deepen their bilateral, economic and commercial relations through these agreements.
New consultation rounds in 2027
During the consultations, Simons proposed holding meetings of the Suriname-Venezuela Political Consultation Mechanism and the Suriname-Venezuela Joint Commission in the first half of 2027.
These consultation structures are intended to contribute to further political coordination and the expansion of technical cooperation between the two countries.
Rodríguez then laid a wreath at the bust of Venezuelan freedom fighter Simón Bolívar at Kerkplein. This marked the end of the ceremonial part of the visit.
The official programme concluded with a lunch hosted by Simons. Rodríguez stressed that Suriname and Venezuela must continue working after the visit to strengthen their commercial cooperation and bilateral relations.
