The 41-year-old gold miner R.K. was injured on Friday afternoon, September 11, in a shooting incident at a gold concession in Snesiebergie in the district of Brokopondo. He sustained a gunshot wound to his left forearm.
Preliminary police investigations show that an acquaintance of the victim fired several shots with a handgun. R.K. was hit in the process.
After the incident, the injured gold miner was flown to Paramaribo for medical treatment. Nothing has yet been announced about his current condition.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown. The suspect is known to the police, but remains at large and is being sought.
Police at the Brokopondo station are investigating the case.
