ABOP chairman Ronnie Brunswijk’s dissatisfaction with the treatment of directors at government institutions and state-owned companies is growing. According to him, officials from his party are continually being put under pressure, and earlier discussions on the issue have brought no improvement. Brunswijk spoke with TBN and indicated that, in his view, the situation has now worsened. Asked whether his earlier public criticism had led to changes, he replied: “It has become worse.” The ABOP chairman referred to several institutions where, according to him, there are problems surrounding management and governance.
Criticism of new investigations
Brunswijk mentioned, among others, the Nationaal Vervoer Bedrijf (NVB), where, according to him, unrest has once again arisen. He said he had seen a letter in which Minister Raymond Landveld orders a quick scan.
He also referred to developments at the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) and Canawaima. According to Brunswijk, directors are continually being harassed in this way. He used the word “bullied” to describe his dissatisfaction with the course of events. The ABOP chairman believes that the treatment of these officials does not fit the cooperation within the governing coalition.
Brunswijk says he is tired of problems
Brunswijk was also asked whether President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons is aware of the developments. He pointed out that the problems are regularly discussed publicly and that the head of state can take note of them.
The politician then indicated that he hardly wants to discuss the matter any longer. “I am really tired, you know. I really cannot keep talking about this,” he said.
According to Brunswijk, he is tired of repeatedly raising the same problems. He indicated that he has to go to the Kabinet van de President on Wednesday again, but that he does not intend to keep bringing the same issues to attention.
