The police of Livorno arrested two suspects on Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2026, in connection with a theft at a guesthouse on Pandit Paltan Tewarieweg. The suspects are 52-year-old taxi driver U.D. and 25-year-old commercial sex worker R.T.

The case came to light after police received a report on Saturday, June 6, at approximately 4:45 AM, regarding a man reportedly behaving aggressively at a guesthouse in the Livorno district. Upon arrival, officers found the 50-year-old complainant, S.A., half-naked. He stated that he had been robbed by a commercial sex worker.

According to the complainant, he had traveled from the interior to Paramaribo on Friday, June 5, with his salary and savings to contribute to a funeral wake in Ephraimzegen. After providing financial support to his family, he took the remaining cash to a Suribet shop in the vicinity of Latourweg and Martin Luther Kingweg. According to his statement, he won a significant amount of money there, which he kept in his waist bag along with his other funds.

Later that night, the man went to an eatery next to the Suribet shop, a known hangout for commercial sex workers. There he met R.T., after which both departed for the guesthouse by taxi. During their stay, the complainant reportedly fell asleep, presumably due to fatigue and alcohol consumption. When he woke up, he noticed that R.T. had disappeared.

According to the complainant, his jeans, waist bag containing a significant amount of money in SRD, ID card, medical card, mobile phone, and gold necklace had been taken. Records from the guesthouse showed that the registration number of the taxi in which R.T. departed matched the taxi that had previously brought them to the guesthouse.

Following further investigation, the police managed to track down the taxi driver, U.D. He was arrested at the intersection of Goede Verwachtingweg and Indira Gandhiweg. Based on his statement, R.T. was also arrested later that same afternoon in the vicinity of her residence on Cornelis Blijdstraat. According to the police, she is already known to the justice system.

A portion of the stolen property has since been recovered. However, the cash and the gold necklace have not yet been found. Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, both suspects have been taken into custody pending further investigation.
