A safe found on Thursday, September 3, during cleaning work along Reebergweg in the ressort Santo Boma was found to have been broken open. According to the police, the safe was empty.
The safe, estimated to measure 50 by 50 centimetres, was discovered by detainees carrying out cleaning work under the supervision of prison officers.
Following the discovery, the supervisors called in the Santo Boma police. Officers from the Forensic Investigation Department and detectives from Regio Midden also arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation.
Initially, it was not yet clear whether the safe had been forced open and what it contained. Further investigation showed that the safe had been broken open and no longer contained anything.
The police are investigating the origin of the safe and are trying to determine whether it is linked to a criminal offence.
