The first edition of the Atjoni Summer Party was successfully held on Saturday, September 5. The event in the ressort of Boven-Suriname combined sports, culture, music and entertainment, attracting visitors from various parts of the country.
The Atjoni Summer Party is an initiative by entrepreneurs Steve Jeroe, owner of Stico Bar en Sportcafé, and Ivan Jozua, owner of Ivan Transport. Both have strong ties to Atjoni and the surrounding communities. With the event, the initiators want to give something back to the local community. At the same time, the party is intended to serve as a platform where sports, culture, music, entrepreneurship and community spirit come together.
Sports and music
The programme began with various sporting activities and later continued with musical performances. Several well-known Surinamese music groups provided entertainment. Young Boss was the evening’s main act and got the audience enthusiastically involved. One of the surprises was a performance by the popular artist Kolonie.
According to the organisation, the large turnout and positive responses show that there is a need for events that bring people in the area together. The initiative is also intended to contribute to the further promotion of Atjoni as a destination for sporting, cultural and musical activities.
Plans for 2027 edition
Following the success of the first edition, the organisation is already looking ahead to the Atjoni Summer Party in 2027. Preparations are expected to begin soon. The aim is to develop the event into an annual festival. There should be more room for sports, culture, music and entrepreneurship, with an important role for the local community.
