A 22-year-old motorist was arrested shortly after a collision with a moped rider on Saturday morning, after driving on without leaving his personal or vehicle details. The moped rider was injured in the accident.
The collision occurred on the Indira Gandhiweg, near the Bijlhoutweg. According to the preliminary police investigation, the 45-year-old moped rider E.P. was travelling along the Indira Gandhiweg, while the passenger car approached him from the opposite direction.
Near the Bijlhoutweg, the Toyota Vitz, for reasons still unknown, ended up in the moped rider’s lane. The moped rider was struck by the car’s right-side mirror.
The moped rider sustained injuries. Both vehicles were damaged in the collision.
The driver of the car, J.A. (22), drove on after the accident without leaving his personal details and the vehicle’s details. Shortly afterwards, police from Lelydorp managed to arrest him near the Welgedacht C-weg.
A check showed that the motorist did not possess a valid driver’s licence. Police at the Rijsdijk station are responsible for the further investigation into the collision.
