A wooden house and a delivery van were completely destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon on Steenslagweg in the district of Para. The house was uninsured.
Paranam police received a report of a house fire and went to the scene to investigate. It concerns a wooden house measuring approximately 8 by 12 metres.
According to preliminary information, the resident left for Zanderij at around 1 p.m. Some time later, she was called by a neighbour after smoke was observed coming from the house. During her return, the woman realised that she had left a pot of rice on the gas stove. By the time she arrived, the house was already fully ablaze. A delivery van parked in the garage also went up in flames.
After arriving, the fire brigade carried out mop-up operations. No definitive conclusion has yet been reached on the exact cause of the fire. Paranam police are continuing their investigation.
