The 28-year-old Rohid Sardjoe died on Tuesday morning in a serious collision on the Afobakaweg. A second occupant, Randolf S., was injured and taken to hospital.
The Paranam police received a report of the traffic accident at around 3 a.m. and went to the location to investigate.
Preliminary police investigations show that a white Toyota Mark X was travelling from the direction of Phedra towards Paranam. Near EBS pole 29, the vehicle left the road and collided with a wooden electricity pole. The car then swerved further and came to a stop against a bus shelter.
Sardjoe was found on the ground outside the vehicle, near its rear. A doctor determined that he had died at the scene.
Randolf S. was found in the back seat of the car. He was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo and admitted for treatment. No information has been released about the severity of his injuries.
Police have impounded the vehicle for further investigation. Sardjoe’s body has also been taken into custody for an autopsy.
It has not yet been established who was driving the car at the time of the accident. The Verkeer Midden department is investigating the exact circumstances of the collision.
