A conflict over an extramarital relationship in Redi Doti, in the district of Para, escalated into a violent confrontation. A man sustained a bleeding head wound after being struck with an air rifle. The suspect, E.J., was arrested by police and remanded in custody.
The Paranam police went to Karakaraweg following a report to investigate the incident. The victim, S.A., was found at the Medical Mission clinic.
The victim’s statement shows that tensions had existed between him and the suspect for some time. E.J. was allegedly maintaining an extramarital relationship with S.A.’s wife and had three children with her. According to the victim, this situation regularly led to arguments. He had therefore made it clear to the suspect that he was only allowed to come to the home for matters concerning the children.
On the day in question, S.A. and his wife attended a party where E.J. was also present. Upon returning home, they found the suspect in front of their driveway. After S.A. instructed him to leave, he and his wife went inside the home.
A short time later, E.J. allegedly entered the home without permission and went to the bedroom, where the woman was at that time. When S.A. again ordered him to leave and the suspect refused, a struggle ensued.
During the confrontation, S.A. grabbed an air rifle, which closely resembles a handgun, to deter E.J. However, the suspect managed to take the weapon from him and allegedly struck him on the head with it. The victim sustained a bleeding injury as a result.
Police seized the air rifle, which according to the investigation was used in the assault and threat.
E.J. was arrested and remanded in custody on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, assault and trespassing. The Paranam police are continuing the investigation.
