The Stichting Productieve Werk Eenheden (SPWE) will start the Small Business Coach training programme on 20 October. Through the programme, the foundation aims to increase its capacity to professionally guide start-up, micro and small entrepreneurs.
A total of six candidates will take part in the training, one of whom already works as a coach at SPWE. The programme is expected to provide the Guidance & Research department with five new coaches. According to the foundation, there is a growing need for support in establishing and developing small businesses.
The participants come from different organisations and were selected based on their knowledge, experience and affinity with entrepreneurship. Their diverse backgrounds are expected to contribute to the quality and specialisation of entrepreneurial guidance.
Pilot with support from BGP
The training will be carried out as a pilot with support from the Bureau Gemeenschapsprojecten (BGP). SPWE and BGP signed the project agreement on 29 September 2026.
If the results are positive, SPWE intends to continue and expand the training on a structural basis. The foundation aims to establish a nationwide network of certified Small Business Coaches from different districts. These coaches are to support entrepreneurs throughout Suriname in starting, strengthening and sustaining their businesses.
The guidance focuses, among other things, on business development and entrepreneurial skills. Through this, SPWE aims to contribute to economic self-reliance, employment and higher productivity.
The official opening will take place in SPWE’s training room. Expected to attend are, among others, the deputy minister of Health, Welfare and Labour, the chairperson of the Supervisory Board, the SPWE director, the trainer, the six participants and project coordinator Simone Haridat.
