Police Chief Pinas: “A great many complaints about the property-damage settlement scheme”

Aankomend korpschef Pinas zet in op technologische innovatie 1536x864 1 Police Chief Pinas reports many complaints about the property-damage settlement scheme, mainly due to incorrect insurance details and ambiguities in vehicle registration, leading to problems for victims and owners.
“There are very many complaints from society about the vehicle-damage settlement scheme,” police chief Melvin Pinas said on Monday on To The Point.
Pinas has had very many people with complaints in his office. According to him, people are hit by vehicles and the perpetrator simply drives away, or the perpetrator only enters fictitious information on the insurance form. “We need to properly evaluate this scheme, because very many complaints are coming in from society.”
Problems also arise when the perpetrator’s vehicle is not registered in their name, but in that of the first owner. The vehicle has therefore not been transferred. In this case, the injured party must conduct a full investigation before a claim can be made. The first owner of the vehicle also becomes a victim of this. He therefore advised that, in the event of a collision, people first take a photo of the situation and the licence plate number, so that this information is already available.
Pinas noted that this is nevertheless a good scheme, under which the police no longer have to respond to a collision involving only vehicle damage. It must be determined which matters are not going well, and they must be handled differently.
