Sapoen on EBS director Brunswijk’s outburst: “We should not take this lightly”

raymond Sapoen dna DNA member Raymond Sapoen condemns EBS director Brunswijk’s sharp criticism of parliament and urges government action to prevent the matter from being downplayed.
“We must not let this slide,” DNA member Raymond Sapoen said in parliament on Monday about the outburst by EBS director Leo Brunswijk directed at De Nationale Assemblée (DNA, Suriname’s parliament), which, according to the director, does not pay its electricity bill.
Sapoen said that no one in this country is untouchable, and certainly not the director of EBS. He was greatly disturbed last week when Brunswijk lashed out at DNA in the media. “So according to him, the chairperson, all DNA members, in fact the entire parliament, must keep their mouths shut when it comes to the country’s electricity supply, because DNA does not pay its electricity bill.”
The parliamentary chairperson responded and indicated that DNA does pay its electricity bill properly and on time. “But that is not really the point. This is not about whether or not DNA pays its electricity bill; it is about the statements made by the director, who was appointed by the government.”
According to him, parliament has dealt too lightly with this outburst. He considers the outburst a serious accusation against parliament, which is unbecoming. “If we simply let this slide, it will place us in a different light, and we do not want that.” He therefore demanded that the government take action in this matter.
