Three people were injured on Sunday, September 6, in a collision between two Toyota Vitz cars on the Avobakaweg. The accident occurred near high-voltage pylons 47 and 48.
Both vehicles were travelling from Brokopondo towards Paranam. Preliminary police investigations show that driver O.A.B. was in front and was being overtaken by S.V.
During the overtaking manoeuvre, S.V. is said to have returned to his lane too early. His vehicle struck the right side of O.A.B.’s car. As a result of the collision, O.A.B. lost control of the steering wheel and his vehicle left the road.
The injured persons, identified as P.A., S.S. and D.H., were transported by Surcad ambulances to the Emergency Department of the Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo. No information has been released on the severity of their injuries.
Both vehicles sustained considerable material damage. The drivers had valid driving licences and were not under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
The Paranam police are continuing their investigation.
