The Korps Politie Suriname (KPS) will implement traffic measures in central Paramaribo on Friday, 11 September, due to the state visit of Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez. Several roads around Kerkplein and the Presidentieel Paleis will be temporarily closed to motorised traffic.
A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the bust of Simón Bolívar. In connection with this, the area around Kerkplein will be kept free of vehicles from 6 a.m. The closures will remain in force until the activities have concluded.
The following intersections and road sections are involved:
- Keizerstraat and Korte Kerkstraat;
- Watermolenstraat and Grote Hofstraat;
- Lim A Postraat and Kerkplein;
- Korte Kerkstraat near the entrance to the Centrumkerk.
Area around Presidentieel Paleis closed
From 8 a.m., the area around the Presidentieel Paleis will also be closed to motorised traffic. These measures will likewise remain in force until the official activities have concluded.
The closures concern the following locations:
- Grote Combéweg and Henck Arronstraat;
- Van Roseveltkade and Kleine Waterstraat.
The KPS urges road users to take delays and diversions into account. Drivers are advised to choose alternative routes and follow the instructions of police officers on site.
