In a collision between a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Toyota Mark-X on the Indira Gandhiweg, a driver was injured during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The accident occurred near building number 744.
Police from the Rijsdijk station received the report at around 12:50 a.m. and went to the scene. Officers found a dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee and a grey Toyota Mark-X there.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the 46-year-old Jeep driver, E.R., was travelling towards Zanderij. The driver of the Mark-X, J.R., was coming from the opposite direction and travelling towards Lelydorp.
E.R. stated that near the Suralcoweg, he suddenly heard a loud impact at the rear of his vehicle. It is suspected that J.R. attempted to overtake the vehicle ahead of him and ended up in the Jeep’s lane. The exact circumstances are still under investigation.
The Mark-X driver was unresponsive after the collision and had sustained injuries. A Surcad ambulance transported him to the Emergency Department. The Jeep driver was unharmed.
The police investigation further showed that J.R. does not hold a Surinamese driving licence. Both vehicles were towed away. Police from the Rijsdijk station are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
