794262335 934905205724026 5412094457901925692 n Eleven PID detainees obtained a certificate after a six-month barber training course, part of the resocialisation programme aimed at increasing their employment prospects after detention.

Eleven inmates of the Penitentiaire Inrichting Duisburglaan (PID) have obtained a certificate after completing a six-month barbering and hairdressing course. The training is part of the resocialisation programme and is intended to increase their employment opportunities after detention.

The training began on March 10, 2026. During the programme, participants learned practical skills in barbering and hairdressing. They received their certificates on Monday, August 31.

The course was organised in collaboration with Ellen Jordan of the Stichting River of Jordan and Giovanni Moesé of barbershop Kiwa. F. Pinas, also affiliated with barbershop Kiwa, acted as examiner.

The programme was supervised by chief penitentiary officer third class M. Rustveld, penitentiary officer first class E. Macintosh and penitentiary officer third class R. Marengo from the Resocialisatie subdepartment. According to Marisca Boerleider, PID director, construction has also begun on a barbershop within the institution. There, inmates should be able to further put the knowledge gained into practice and acquire additional work experience.

Korpshoofd Joyce Pané-Alfaisi expressed her appreciation during the certificate presentation for the organisations and individuals who contributed to the training. She called the obtaining of the certificates an important milestone for the participants and the prison service. Also present at the presentation were deputy directors, staff members of the Resocialisatie department and relatives of the inmates.

Through vocational training, the PID aims to prepare inmates for their return to society. Teaching practical skills is intended to increase their opportunities to earn an independent income after detention and reintegrate into society.
