The Richelieu police on Saturday, August 22, arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of stealing his neighbour’s mobile phone. The suspect confessed to taking and selling the device.
The woman filed a report on Tuesday, August 11. She stated that she had been working as a domestic helper for a neighbour for eight years. On the day in question, she left her phone inside the house while carrying out work outside.
When she returned, the device had disappeared. She suspected R.R., a relative of her employer, because according to her, he was the only person who had entered the house during her absence. Security footage also showed that only the suspect had entered the house.
R.R. was arrested and brought before the authorities based on the information gathered. During questioning, he confessed to stealing and subsequently selling the phone. He stated that he had done so because the woman had allegedly called him a drug addict.
A family member compensated the woman for the stolen device. After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, R.R. was released following his questioning.
