Henk Fraser has announced his first squad as Suriname’s national coach. Shiloh ‘t Zand, on loan from Feyenoord to Fortuna Sittard, has been called up for the first time. The same applies to Denilho Cleonise, who moved from RKC to ML Vitebsk (Belarus) last summer.
For ‘t Zand, the call-up comes at a good time. The midfielder had reached a dead end at Feyenoord and barely got any playing time. A temporary move to Fortuna was meant to change that and the 22-year-old Feyenoord player is now increasingly gaining the confidence of coach Danny Buijs, ESPN writes.
In the past matches, ‘t Zand played the full ninety minutes twice. Earlier, he had also scored as a substitute against Cambuur. The midfielder recently said that the period without much playing time at Feyenoord had been mentally difficult for him.
It will also be a special international break for Henk Fraser. The former coach of, among others, Sparta Rotterdam and RKC Waalwijk has put together his first squad as Suriname’s national coach. In addition to ‘t Zand, Denilho Cleonise will also report for duty for the first time. Fraser otherwise mainly opts for familiar names. Sheraldo Becker, Gyrano Kerk and FC Groningen goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen are among those once again included in the squad.
Suriname will play four CONCACAF Nations League matches between September 26 and October 6. Honduras, Martinique and Guatemala twice are the opponents. This gives ‘t Zand the prospect of his first appearance for Suriname.
