Vitesse and Jeredy Hilterman are on the verge of a partnership, but no longer have it in their own hands. Given the goalscorer’s Surinamese nationality, the IND must give approval before white smoke can emerge from Arnhem. These are the traces left by the ‘passportgate’. “Now it is a matter of waiting,” said Hilterman, who has been allowed to train with Vitesse for some time.
“I am still experiencing some issues related to the Suriname complications surrounding the passportgate. I have to wait until everything is arranged. I am waiting for my papers and approval from the IND.” The expectation is not that the required approval will come on Deadline Day, but nothing is impossible.
If the green light is given, the Arnhem side can seal the deal. “I know they had already shown interest at an earlier stage. Two or three weeks ago, my contract with Arminia Bielefeld was terminated and then they got back in touch. That is how I ended up here now,” Hilterman explained his choice for Vitesse.
For now, however, he is free to go wherever he wants. “If I wanted to go on holiday for a while, I could do that. I can go in any direction. But I am here, also to stay fit.”
