The Cabinet of the President warns of a false online message promising families and young people SRD 50,000 in social support. The government calls on the public not to click on the attached link and not to leave any personal details.
The misleading appeal has been circulating via the internet and social media for several days. The message claims that the Surinamese government has approved a subsidy of SRD 50,000 for families and young people.
According to the appeal, the financial support would be provided by a so-called National Fund for Family and Youth Support. It is also claimed that payments for this month have already begun and that interested parties can register free of charge via a link.
No official fund
The Cabinet of the President stresses that the information does not originate from the government. The mentioned National Fund for Family and Youth Support does not exist. Nor is there a government fund under the name Aid Fund of the Surinamese government.
The false appeal uses a photograph of President Jennifer Simons without permission. The creators presumably seek to give the impression that the message is trustworthy and official.
The Cabinet advises citizens not to click on the link and not to be misled. Official announcements on social support are published exclusively through the government’s communication channels.
